Christmas During The Corona

I stared out the window, looking through the glass at the white ground outside. The glass felt chilly on my hand when I touched it, and my warm breath caused a slight amount of fog to appear. It was Christmas, and we were waiting for it to be time to start opening the presents.

I was surprised that everyone could come, because the coronavirus was getting really bad in Kentucky. I was just glad that everyone was healthy.

My sister had already declared that she was going to be passing the presents out, while her boyfriend was drinking eggnog with bourbon. My brother and his girlfriend were talking about something. My ten-year-old brother was playing with my two-year-old brother. My dad was filming all of this with his phone, just like he did every year. He had to delete some pictures in order to take it though, mainly because he takes about 50 pictures everyday of random things. My mom says he takes too many pictures, just like he keeps too many items. My mother was in the kitchen, getting started on the Christmas dinner.

There was a mountain of christmas presents under the christmas tree, which was decorated with a bunch of ornaments. Some of the ornaments we had just gotten last year, while others were from 4 to 5 years ago. We had done a theme of red and gold for the tree, and my mom had put a bunch of lights on the tree. She said that lots of lights on the christmas tree made it look magical. My little brother had started yelling my name, over and over again while I was trying to talk to my sister’s boyfriend about how the eggnog tasted. I had to see what he wanted, or else he would keep bothering me throughout the day. No wait… he does that even if I pay attention to him.

Finally the time came for us to unwrap our presents. We took turns, opening one gift at a time when Nicole handed one to us. Whitney got a bunch of socks with llamas on them, which was kind of predictable, mainly because she gets socks with llamas on them every year. My sister’s boyfriend got some snack mixes, while my brother got a Harry Potter puzzle. I’m glad he didn’t get another Nerf gun. I don’t think I could deal with another Nerf war like last year’s. It was chaos. We found the little balls that go in it everywhere. One somehow ended up in the toaster, which we found about 5 months later. How it got there, I don’t know.

My sister got a puzzle too, except hers was Pokemon. I got a sign in the shape of an M. My 10 year old brother got a Star Wars Lego set, and my two year old brother got about 20 little things from Play-Doh. That was probably going to be found in the carpet later. Oh, well. I guess that’s what happens when you have a two year old with a five second attention span.

After everyone had unwrapped their presents, we enjoyed talking to each other and watching Christmas movies, which included “A Muppet Christmas Carol”. About four hours later, after everyone had eaten the Christmas dinner that my mom made, which included turkey, mashed potatoes, and the other things that people usually eat on Christmas for dinner, it was time for everyone to go. We said our goodbyes, and everyone gathered up their things, including the numerous presents that they had gotten.

I was glad that my family was able to come for Christmas. It wouldn’t have been the same without them.
